Default Bangour fishery

Hi our club has just fished Bangour we still managed to get a good return despite gale force winds what an improvement on the last time i was there the facilities are first class
It WAS ALSO REFRESHING TO MEET AN OWNER WHO IS VERY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT FISHING AND IS A STICKLER FOR RELEASING FISH BACK THE PROPER WAY I.E NOT TOUCHING OR LIFTING THE FISH FROM THE WATER how many of us have cringed at some of the releases we have seen throughout the years
Stevie Reid will run round the fishery to aid less abled members release the fish if they have difficulty in bending, one way of keeping fit keep up the good work we will be back next season as a club

its good to hear that!

i used to be a regular at bangour for 2/3 years when i lived in livingston,i still have the bangour open trophy on my shelfs ,i always loved the settings and knew it had massive potential to be a top fishery if only it had a decent owner who actually gave a toss about it!

so what has all changed then?
might have to get myself back up for a wee visit

Fished it just once when I worked in Bannockburn for six months. Had my biggest rainbow (5lb) and biggest brown (6lb) on consecutive casts. Hadn't had a touch up until then but a muddler on the surface brought them out of the depths with vicious takes. The fly alas got stuck on a floodlight and couldn't be retrieved. Seemed fitting that it stayed there anyway as it was the only one I had and I probably would never have used another pattern to this day if I'd kept it. The fishery therefore rekindles good memories for me everytime someone mentions it on here.

yeah! i took one of my workmates up to learn him to fly fish his first ever time with a fly rod and he caught a twelve and a half pounder lol i blanked!

dougie used to put a lot of big fish in it untill the last year and a half of the lease when he basically turned in to an ar*e hole!

a longshank muddler used to work extremely well from the dam wall/tower

Can't remember seeing carp in there but there were definitely some large Goldies that weren't interested in anything that anyone offered them.

I remember 'poaching' it in the late 70s/early 80's with a few schoolfriends, long before it was a put & take. Will always remember seeing a huge carp right in at the edge, this thing was built like a whisky barrel, what a mallarkey it created amongst us, never having seen anything other than a half pound broonie in those parts. At that time it only had wild browns in it (other than the carp, of course).
