Default Twin Lakes Croston

For those who have not noticed posts in the "Curleys" thread, Twin Lakes at Croston shut its doors to fly fishing today.
Visited yesterday with Woz and we were told by the Manager in the lodge that the owners have decided to sell to someone in the coarse fish business, not for coarse fishing, but breeding/raising fish.
I used to fish there regularly and it was a popular and successful venue with top class fishing. See photos by Woz in the Curleys thread
End of an era.

That's sad. I read Woz's post and wasn't sure if he meant 'closing for a time' but it seems like it's closing for good. I've never fished it and now I never will.

So it goes.

Do you know if its remaining open as a coarse fishery? or is it being closed to all angling?

We was told being closed to angling all together mate, just for breeding and rearing of coarse fish... Seems a little on the large side for that in my opinion just one of the lakes would of been sufficient, and take an secondary income from the other lake coarse or fly...

A great shame - it was one of my favourite roach venues

I am a croston lad, learnedto fly fish at twin lakes at twelve, moved awayat 22 and just moved back with my familyin dec,and it was frozen till last week ,so i am reallygutted that it is closing. You are right it is owned by ruttle who owns the plant hire nextdoor, and he is leasing it out to the chap who will rear and sell on the coarse fish. There will be no fishing, and no cafe any more either, just a fish rearing site.Graham the manager there has been there since day one and worked hard and did well, cosidering he worked for a tight arsed git like ruttle, graham made it a good fishery, always stocked well, and him and his wife linda cooked great food in the cafe, which is why so many cyclists groups stopped off there on their rides out.If ruttle had put a bit more money in to smarten the place up,then maybe more fisherman would have gone and the revenue may have kept it open,I really hope one day it does re open for trout,I can walk there in 5 minutes. We still have mere beck and curleys, barnsfold and a few others further affield,so lets keep going folks and keep them open, because as I now realise, you take a decent fishery for granted, and realise that when its gone.I wish graham linda and the other staff all the best, and hope they have jobs to go to.
Regards Gary.

I also used to live near Croston, and my daughter lived in Croston for a number of years.
I remember when it first opened, and Graham and I were good friends.
He ran the place very well, a credit to him and Linda, in the first five years or so it was a top class stillwater venue, with excellent top of the water sport, dusk with a sedge on was fantastic.
Twinlakes saved the village from a flood years ago when the river Yarrow burst its banks, and most of the water was diverted into the then empty pits.
The fishery was created shortly afterwards.
I had many fantastic days and evenings there, it was £3 back then for an evening ticket, 5pm till dusk.
Great shame, and I wish Graham and his family all the best for the future.

Your'e right guys,

It would be a top class fishery if the Ruttle brothers put some investment in, at great shame.
