I have a club trip there from the boats on Sunday 27th, so would be interested in anyone fishing it between now and then - I have had pretty good reports upto this week from other forum folks.

Thanks

Charlie

Don't empty the place I'm going on Monday!! Was there last Saturday, fish coming out on the Leicestershire side pretty much all along the shore! Good hatches and lots of martins and swifts to prove it!

tight lines

It was very wet and very difficult today. In our 15 boat comp, we came sixth and had just one fish, so nine boats blanked !

Everyone told us to go up the top end and fish nymphs, but the top two pairs blobbed it, one up the top and one across the dam area. Another pair caught well fishing around the tower and jetty into fry schools using diawl bachs. At the Stoke end there were a few fish nymphing on the lee shore but they were hard to catch - my one, beautiful fish came on a booby cruncher at the point of my washing line set up and was 3lbs 9ozs. That was the only pull I had all day and while the Patagonia jacket did well the Scierra bib and brace did not

There were several fish caught over 3lbs and a couple over 4lbs but the weather was the winner today.

Sorry to hear about your day. I passed on yesterday as conditions did not improve or may have been even worse. I dont mind fishing in the rain but rain wind and cold weather sorry call me a fair weather fisherman!

I fished a match last Sunday and found black with silver ribbed buzzers and bug eyed type damsel nymphs took most fish. It was a very bright hot day although some fish were taken 4-5ft down on a 10-12ft leader but the majority on point. Both methods fished static or slooooooooooow retrieve with or without the bung produced roughly the same so the choice is yours.

Hope this helps a little

Mick

Hello, first post!

I was there that day, in a boat with my brother! We had a great day, catching and releasing 11 rainbows to around seven pounds (full finned and over wintered!) and 5 browns, in superb condition apart from cormorant damage. The browns were all around 2 pounds, and lovely brown coloured with red black spots.

And the fish all fought like tigers. In fact they fought like Ravensthorpe trout used to fight!

We caught nearly all of them on a black buzzer, with a flash of green. The important thing seemed to be the length of leader, we had very long ones (!), buzzer on the point. Almost no retrieve.

Of course, this is all out of date now!
