Default Wimbleball

Has anybody fished at Wimbleball recently? I've got a bank competition there on Sunday and would appreciate any advice / tips. All i've heard is that it's been fishing poor recently.

Is it from the bank or boat?

The wind has changed around a bit of late but fish were caught all over the lake but the fish were being caught very close to the bank

black and green worked well on a inter as did db's.

Have fun fishing it.

Many thanks WCB. I'm fishing from the bank and was planning to set up a 5-weight with db's/buzzers and a 7-weight with intermediate & lures. - so your tips seem to fit well. Thought i'd start at Cow Moor (where it will hopefully be a little quieter) and try and pick up a resident rather than stockie bash at Bessoms/Ruggs. May even make it as far as Upton Arm (on the South bank) as the match is set for 8 hours !

Springwell - not sure what you mean by "Check out the Wimbleball Social on the other side "? Am I missing out on something?

There were some good brownies caught on the cowmoor bank going toward the dam end if that helps.

If its windy i would stick to the 7# rods.

Thanks again wcb, i'll try the South bank of Cow Moor first. Should be good with the expected Westerly. A Brownie would be a nice bonus. Any idea on what they were taking?

I had mine on DB and on a black and green tadpole fished on a intermediate line and a fo8 retrieve.

If you are allowed then try a bung and three buzzers at ruggs as i have had some superb bags of fish doing this or if that does not work then a cats whisker on the point with two DB on droppers.

Good luck.

Well the match went pretty well yesterday. Managed my limit of 6 rainbows and won for the first time. All fish came to diawl bach nymphs fished almost static at Ruggs (in the deep water close to the road bridge). The fish were holding very close to the shore - no more than 20 feet out - probably due to the water being less than clear. Unusual for Wimbleball, the water had a green tinge with algae collecting close to the shoreline, particularly noticeable at Cow Moor.

I did try Cow Moor first off - there were plenty of fish about - but couldn't touch any. Then a speedboat came close by, parked up on the opposite side of the bay, clanking chains in the boat. It then motored over to my side and beached within 60yrds and repeated to make the same racket. It was noticeable that all fish activity stopped dead after that! I'm all for sharing the Res with other users but this did appear a little inconsiderate. That prompted me to leave for Ruggs, which probably did me a favour!!

Well done SM.

Told you the fish were close in.

The water was just starting to colour when we were there last week.

Maybe see you up there one day.
