Thornton Weekly report week ending 13/02/11
Another excellent week with 179 rods catching 1,362 trout returning 924 for a rod average 7.6
The shallows of the Thornton arm, wood bank & Markfield arm continue to provide the best sport with bank & boat anglers enjoying good catches. The more overcast & windy the weather the closer the trout are in on the margins with anglers using a floating or intermediate line with cats whiskers, green pea & blobs although on the warmer days anglers prepared to fish bloodworm, diawl bach & in particular a large black buzzer have enjoyed excellent sport especially down past the lonesome pine into the Markfield arm
Keith Coley recorded one of the best fish this week an excellent overwintered rainbow of 4lb.
Our water temperature is slightly above 5 degrees & the clarity is good for the time of year. If your considering a session on the bank be sure to bring your waders.
We currently have a clearance sale on Shakespeare PVC waders limited sizes but at an incredible £14.99 call the lodge for further details.
As you can imagine with a rod average of 7.6 a number of anglers have caught well into double figures while fishing catch & release, despite the cold water temperatures which allow the trout to recover quickly be sure you wet your hands before touching the trout, if possible release the fish while their still in the water & cradle the trout until they swim away, if youre unsure ask at the lodge.
