Default Wych Elm

With all the rivers being in flood where I live I decided on a half day session at Wych Elm trout fishery near Milnethorpe I passed over the river Bela on the way to wych and could see it had burst its banks.

On pulling into the car park I could see 4 other anglers on the bank so there I knew that I would have plenty of space to try and find the fish.I set up with a team of 3 buzzers and fished them round on the wind and switching between them and a olive damsel nymph I caught a number of fish mainly blues but a sprinkling of rainbows as well.

I have fished Wych Elm quite a few times over the years and what a little gem! Ken holds his own fish on site with Rainbows, Blues and Browns stocked. A small fishery with casting platforms spread around the fishery,
weekdays are the best with smaller numbers of people fishing as opposed to weekends, which tend to be busy. There is a Caravan on site offering brew making facilities and a place to get out of the rain, and with a 5 hour sporting ticket only costing £8 its real value for money especially if you are desperate as me to wet a line. (see below for link to the fishery)

With sat looking like the best day this weekend i once again visited whch elm,the wind had dropped right off but the rain was set in for the day.

On looking in the catch returns book i could see for the last couple of days it was cats whiskers and bloodworm patterns,so on went a aps bloodworm pattern.i had a very enjoyable day catch both rainbows and blues

Fished wych elm yesterday great little fishery. i was amazed me and her indoors were the only two there we had a great day fishing buzzers caught both freelining and under a bung. Had best results under the bung if it works use it. best fly was a black and green buzzer and as said above £8 for 5 hours fishing cant beat it. the fish fight well and are in fine fettle will definitely be back soon. if u havnt been try it

I am trying to plan a trip to Wych Elm for mid April and I was wondering if anyone knew a good place stay around there for a couple of days? I emailed Wych Elm but their rooms are rented on a weekly basis. Thanks!

There is a pub not so far from the fishery , that has rooms. I stayed there a few years ago and it was ok. The fishery owner will know the name as I think it was his local.
A great wee fishery
