Thumbs up Allandale Tarn opening update 17/01/11

As of this afternoon there was only 6 pegs up the far end that are as yet with ice in front of them, the rest if completely open. Still some work needing done, but all the neccesarys are scrubbed, the kettle is ready to put on in the morning and the wood pile is full & ready to keep us all warm!
As expected, the water has a little colour through it as a result of being iced over completely for some several weeks. It was iced over almost twice this length of time last Winter and changed to tap water clear in no time and as the water table is above it's maximum level, The Tarn is continuesly flushing out over the damn anyway.
I would bet that tomorrows tactics for our first day of fishing in nearly 2 months will involve okey dokys and blobs for most anglers, but I would still favour the fry patterns too!..
Tomorrows local forecast is looking pleasant enough, although still cool with highs of 6c expected, it seems set to be a sunny enough day with just enough of a breeze to keep a cast in a nice drift!

Tight lines where ever you manage to wet a line this season!

Default Forgot to mention!

Sorry yes, forgot to mention that Allandale will be open for Fly fishing only at the moment as the Bait pool is still frozen over. Any updates will be posted both on here and on the Allandale web site as soon as there are any changes.

Thanks!

Lightbulb

Closed the office last night leaving only 6 pegs remaining unfishable due to the solid ice. Woke up this morning with barely 6 pegs still clear of ice thanks to the unpredicted sub zero conditions. Happy days!..
Never mind, as the day warmed and with a bit of work, larger areas were clearing up throughout the day! As of tonight, only the very top end is still iced over, taking out 8 pegs. So with the weather remaining unpredicatable, I'll post daily up dates both here and on the Allandale web site as to conditions on the day!..
The Bait is presently still iced over!
Only Fly fishing available 9am - 4:30pm!
Finger crossed for the weekend folks!..

As for what's catching :
The icey sheltered side of the Tarn was definetly hard fishing today, but saw a few fish getting caught more later in the afternoon when it eventually got milder. However the 'sunny side' was fishing superb on & off, with even the occassional fish rising. At least 2 guys considered trying to temp the fish to a dry, but thought better of it in the end as their arses welded to the frozen seats. lol!... Best flies today were by far the old slim Hot Head Shellback Damsel or a cast of Buzzers, both methods accounting for quantitys into double figures for a couple of anglers. These worked througout the day and then the black Rabbit just off the ice sheet got one chap several feisty beasties later in the afternoon!.. For Buzzers & nymphs it was an intermediate line day, for heavier lures it seems worth while staying on the floater.

Tight lines wherever you wet a line this season!

Wink It's only weather!..

If I thought I could blame you I would. LOl.. I was seriously peed off at the drop in temperature again, but hey ho, that's the way it is!.. It's all looking pretty good now actually, so looks like I'm in for an early rise again this morning to open up the office. Fishings 9 - 4:30 and then i can collapse on the sofa by 5 ish. he he! Not used to working so hard of late... Role on the better weather!..

See you all soon!

As always, tight lines! *With the pollite exception of league matches) He he he..
