Default Pitsford prospects

I am fishing Pitsford off the bank tomorrow (9 may), can anyone update me? I fished it from a boat last Friday and had a few fish in the morning but zilch after lunch.I'm hoping the change in wind and pressure will be for the better, with a sws forecast I will be on the south shore, maybe sermans or the gravels (?) Any info gratefully received.

Suggest you pm Mugsy53 - he fishes it from the bank quite regularly.

Default Pitsford report 10 May

Perfect conditions: overcast 6mph WSW wind , buzzers hatching well at 7.00 a.m. Fish showing in the windlanes but appeared to be smutting, rather than taking the buzzers. As a result they were very picky, I had four takes on small spiders and lost all four, which I expected to as the takes were very 'plucky'.Didn't see the boats take any and the other bank fisherman went home by lunchtime.Apparently the day before fished badly in the boats, but it was blowing up hard.
I'm sure it will be back to fishing its head off as soon as the fish settle down into this new weather system- I think they had got too used to that high pressure. The hatches are great, we were standing in buzzer soup yesterday.
Tight lines,
GM

Default Update 13-05-07

Due to the rather heavy rain today we set ourselves a time limit of 2pm unless the weather changed. It didn't. So..

We arrived at Pitsford Creek at about 9.45 am. No need for an early start, the buzzers don't start hatching seriously until around 11am. First fish caught at 11.05 followed by intermittent activity until around 1.30pm. Most of the takes were very gentle plucks and draws and very hard to hit but we ended at 2pm with 5 fish in the boat. We returned 1 Rainbow, 1 beautiful Brown between 6-7lb (pic posted in the gallery section) and 1 Pike around 8lb. Oh, and 1 House Martin caught on the top dropper whilst playing a 2lb+ Rainbow. Thank heaven for barbless hooks.

Tactics were green or brown buzzers (12-14) fished slow to medium figure 8 on a floater and 18ft 4lb or 6lb leader and using a suspender buzzer to hold them under the surface at times of surface activity.

Great day but cut short by the pissistant precipitation.

.

Perhaps that was a 'Pitsford pair' midlander, I remember the elusive Grafham 'full house' - a brownie on the point, a perch on the bottom dropper and a martin on the top!
I am off to Pitsford on friday, to fish the bank I think; it looks like strong south westerlies.I couldn't see many hawthorns around when we fished last thursday, just a few of the smaller males.I live only 65 miles south and they are out here now; I was hoping that they were out up there and a good blow would get them on the water in numbers.
I shall report back.....

Oddly enough I've never seen a good Hawthorn fall on Pitsford. I can only put this down to the fact that the hedges, by and large, are over 50 yards from the shoreline. On the subject of terrestrial falls, I've seen a few very good Soldier Beetle falls from late June onwards when you get some real beasts rising from the depths to cruise the surface, usually around the Pines. I'll be interested to hear how you get on. My next visit will probably be around the end of the month.
