Default Not Bored anymore SEPA came to visit today

Had a visit from SEPA today and got my knuckles rapped, seemingly as of lately we have a new reservoirs act, yep its been in place since 8th April 2010 http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/s3...-introd-pm.pdf but in Scotland its only kicked in since {and your not going to believe this, yes it’s the 14 of December} Basically its all about giving power hungry civil servants the right to tell landowners what to do, I’ve not got a problem with SEPA its Lindores loch that’s got the problem, it stinks like a sewer, it used to be one of Scotland premier Fisheries but now it’s a desolate wasteland, SEPA want someone to get involved with it on a commercial fishing basis (spend lots of cash making it better) and they have been monitoring it for the last three years on a weekly (Summer) monthly (Winter) basis, now in them monitoring Lindores, they have been watching everything, that I have been doing, and I mean everything, {photos dates the lot} and boy am I glad we decided to make our improvements this last few months, why, under the old act seemingly I could do whatever I wanted to, it belonged to me and so long as it wasn’t outrageous I could do it, powerboats, water-ski, sail boarding, diving, swimming anything, but now its up to them, by law, and they mean it, any operator of any water in the UK needs written permission to do anything, we built a new boat harbour and that’s what annoyed them is (a) it is more than 5m2 and can be seen by ariel photography (b) have caused brown earth to be exposed (c) when we cut the weeds in the summer I dumped them in a heap to rot, that was really bad I should have taken them to the council tip and paid them to take them which they then compost and sell back to gardeners’ and from now on we have to advise if we are going to cut weeds.

John,That's just the start of your payments, under their Controlled Activities Regulations,you will pay for everything,And I still can't get to the bottom of their proposed registration payments.

Are you sure that this is UK wide and not just Scotland. Another great advert for devolution - Vote "No" in Wales when they ask if the Assembly should have more devolved power next year!!!!

It will get to a point where it certainly wont be worth it, not that it really is anyway. When they do eventually cripple us all into closing itll be too late due to no one standing together at present and fighting them. Their legislation is a joke and as big Jim says the CAR regulations dont make any sense nor do there fees. Unjustified bullsh*t cleverly worded to make it sound like they care.

SEPA are self funding the more they can extort the stronger they become.

I remeber reading somewhere that men in the MAFIA were jailed for the same thing.......

Hi FISH4FUN, its actually really sad for Lindores and nobody really knows what’s happening, there is a nice couple from Methil, that seem to be renting on a monthly basis the lodge and the loch, they are providing snacks and coffee and letting out boats for coarse fishing, well Pike and Perch, however the problem at Lindores is Argulus, Fresh Water Lice to you and me, that’s from a fishing point of view, but SEPA s interest is in the phosphate levels, as they reckon that’s the direct link to the appalling condition of the water, it is really bad, so bad you wouldn’t even want to pee in it. And that’s one of the reasons the SEPA guy was here seemingly the PHOSPHATE level for good water i.e. hill lochs and reservoirs is about 50 ppm, at the Goldenloch we are according to him about 110 ppm and Lindores is about 180 ppm, now he says that they reckon from all the core sampling they’ve done of the sediment that in 1945 it was about 45 ppm and in 1900 it was even less, his theory on why my levels were high, is because of cattle and sheep, pee and poo, but also it could be because we had put soil in the water to build our new jetty, any disturbance according to him of soil has a direct effect on the water including clarity, and will increase phosphate levels.

Hi Jim you’re absolutely right when I asked the guy what this new act meant to me as under the old act I knew I was exempt, his answer was that we were 100% inside the criteria, and that we would have to register and be governed by SEPA who were the Governments appointed regulator, anything that we changed or effected would be similar to the planning regulations and their would be a payment to them {ching ghing}

Sewinbasher I’m not to sure I can only go by what the guy was telling me, to be fair he was pretty nervous when he arrived in his battery powered prius Toyota car, and obviously had a lot on his mind, cause while he was here he covered so much ground, I actually got a bit lost, but recovered quite quickly when he told me that I was going to start having to pay them if I wanted to do anything to my property.
