Default Albury Estate,Weston fishery 20/11/10

A chilly, overcast, breezy miserable sort of day.
Started towards far end of main lake where some fishe were showing quite close in.Tried buzzer without any interest but a damsel soon had one on the bank.Continued in the general area as fish were still showing, but nothing save a few looks on egg fly.
Moved onto small lake and again buzzer were a dead loss, damsel also and egg fly got the odd look.A black and gold straggle cats took one straight away then another followed quickly.
Had some lunch and a drink and walked back up to small lake thinking i would take a quick fish and get off.Nothing, zilch not a look
Went back onto main lake still at far end but opposite bank near the inflow.Found a pod of decent fish.but again, buzzer, damsel, egg and cats wre refused.Put on a hopper and pulled it fairly fast subsurface and had a violent take which broke my leader.Re tied another and had some looks and follows so kept with it.
Had another really hard take and a fish headed off to the horizon. After a spirited fight i banked a fish of just uner 5lb.
That fish was covered in lice,in fact never seen so many on one fish, didn't make any odds to its condition or fighting qualities however. The other fish were clean!!!!.
Packed up on that fish with plenty of reasonable fish moving still.
The Drummond arms in Albury will purchase any fish not required(don't know what the rate is) or you can have refreshmentsprovided you show your membership card

That's interesting about the Drummond taking fish, it does put me off going to Albury sometimes when I have a freezer full.

Certainly agree about the Albury fish, I've never seen stocked trout in such consistently excellent condition. Having said that, the average weight seems to have been a bit lower this last year (to me anyway!) but my last couple of visits have produced fish of a size they always used to be.

Russell.

Russell,
quite agree.i do like Albury as a fishery BUT i really don't want to take fish all the time.
There were some really decent fish moving at the far end of the main Weston lake, clarity was quite good and they were pretty close in as well.Pity i had not seen them before hand,i would have tried for a few more.Certainly saw a few bigger than the near five that i had.
