I am looking to plan a trip to Llandovery in the first week of may.

I would like to get a day of fly fishing in if I can.

I have not fished in this part of the UK before and would appreciate any advice on locations gor bank fly fishing (not brave enough to try a boat yet!)

There are no stillwaters as such in and around Llandovery. The nearest would be the reservoirs in the Breckon Beacons, Teify Pools above Tregaron or Elan Valley/Claerwen reservoir. All about an hour's drive (minimum) away. There are some put and takes within 45 min distance, one being Garnffrwd - see this section below for some threads on that. LLysyfran is too far.

However you are in wonderful river country with the Towy being right there and Llandovery AA having some excellent water - albeit a bit early in the season. By the way - a 16lb sea trout came out of the Towy at Llandeilo (12 miles downstream) last weekend and a few salmon have been caught. I would fish the river - get a daily license and a permit.

You make an effort to give some help to someone and they don't even have the basic courtesy to acknowledge the fact. This has happened a few times recently and I don't think I'm going to bother any more.

What about the Usk reservoir thats fairly close to Llandovery. Haven't been myself but was planning a trip in the next few weeks. Anyone have any experience of it.
