Default Loch Katrine

Has anybody on here ever fished on Loch Katrine? Was hoping to cast a fly on there this Summer for the Trout but moreso the Pike. Most of the websites I've looked at seem a bit vague and dated - any up-to-date info appreciated.

I used to fish Loch Katrine and Loch Arklett a few years ago when my son in law worked for The Strathclyde Water Company and lived in a cottage on the loch at Stronachlachar. He looked after the water levels and trout hatchery for both lochs. I was fortunate to have free fishing and boat use. I can honestly say that I always found the fishing hard and if I caught 2 trout, it was a good day.

Now regarding the pike there. I'm sure the british pike record could be broken with the fish in this loch. Every winter my son in law used to set pike traps in various places around the loch. I have seen pictures of pike that have been caught in these traps, and they are monsters. I have never fished for pike but my son in law always said if you catch one please kill it. They appear to be a problem for the trout in this loch.

Question confused

i'm not sure if they're is a fishery there just now,you might even be able to bank fish it for free, though that would involve hiking for miles.

I dont think bank fishing is allowed on Loch Katrine, I know it definately is not allowed on Arklet. The hatchery is now at Arklet and supplies Katrine.

Thanks for the info Ron but I would suggest that the killing of the Pike would upset the natural balance of the Loch. They have as much right to be there as the trout!! I wouldn't kill them anyway being a member of the PAAS (Pike Anglers Alliance for Scotland).

Dougie, you can still get a boat on Katrine mate. You just gotta ask the right questions in the right places.

Hi Munro,

How did you get on at Katrine then? Its a bit of a puddle to be putting around on an electric motor is it not? Wouldnt like to be out in a strongish wind.

Regards

Mark
