Fished the Watch on Saturday, bright skies and a baltic easterly Started on the north bank but there wasn't much getting caught and it was freezing. Got one early on a black/green fritz and missed another couple but decided to head for the shelter of the dam. Got there as the swallows started taking the buzzers that were coming off but no fish rising. Stuck on a buzzer and a couple of diawl bachs on a slow intermediate and swung them round in the breeze. Ended up with six and another couple lost. Fish weren't in great shape and were on the small side - I weighed in 5 for 6lb 4oz.
Only a couple of us in the club got our limits most had ones or twos but there a few who didn't bother fishing after the luchtime BBQ

A mate and I had thought about the Watch on Saturday, but ended up going to Roseberry instead - where we got fed up with the bright sun and cold wind and baitfishers and spinners catching more fish than us and ignoring boat fishing etiquette. Should have gone to the Watch - though it sounds as though the fish are not up to usual standards.

Very disappointed with the fish. 2 of mine were blue trout about 3/4lb which were more like sardines - no fight in them at all. Heaviest fish caught for our 20 rods was 2lb
We were expecting the usual strong fighting, 2lb minimum but it wasn't to be. Bill suggested they might all have been overwintered fish that were still to put on weight
