Default Mere Beck Fly Fishing

Just thought I'd start a new thread about Mere Beck,I went there Sunday glorious day. Caught a few on black gnats off the top, quite a busy day, plenty of spots to fish a lot of areas have been opened up to allow easier access. They are restocking next Monday 18th October looking forward to it.

I didnt catch any coarse fish only rainbows,I have been in the summer months and there have been a few rudd and orfe knocking about when the water is warmer, but generally its just rainbows and browns.I have caught the odd blue trout too. They give a great fight.

Default mere beck this week

Hello folks,
I am going to try my best to do a report on mere beck at least every couple of weeks ,to keep you all up to date how it has been fishing.
mere beck was stocked again on monday, and as normal it has fished great so far since, most anglers using lures ie cats whiskers and fritz to take most of the fish.most people fish these flies on a floating line all year round at mere beck ,as the pools are not too big or too deep, but if you fish the pools at the far end of the fishery, try a slightly longer leader if you want to go deeper as this is the deepest part of the fishery.other flies to try are black and olive buzzers small is better 14 and 16,and worth trying dries on a mild day, black gnats f flies and hoppers daddies and sedges can all take fish. The last few weeks i was there before the last stocking cats and black and green montana was doing the trick.
Good lucK,Regards Gary.

Default mere beck report

Hello folks,
Sorry I have been so long in putting this up,been a busy lad again.
So,whats been happening,
Mere beck was stocked again on early this week, andfished well straight away,
Mr Tierney took nine on a cats whisker, the week before regular frank parkinson took four on the same fly.I was there most of the day on sundaydoing tuition, and fish were showing all morning, even in the cold wind, especially in jetty pool and trout 1 pool, nigel geary had a beauty off jetty pool on a size14 black and orangethorax buzzer, was about 3lb,but absolutely fin perfect, really was a stunning trout
Fish are being taken on cats montana, buzzers and bloodworm, some even still taking fish on daddies and black gnats, there was a good hatch of chironmid midge on sunday.
Good luck, enjoy your fishing wherever you are.
Gary.

Default Any update on Mere Beck?

I'm travelling up from London into the Ormskirk area later this week and hope to get some time at Mere Beck. I've never been there before. Is it still fishing OK in this cold weather? Any tips?
