Default Rib Valley Open Day

Rib Valley has just opened for the winter/spring season and will fish really well right through. It is well located for the Home Counties near Ware in Hertfordshire.

To help newcomers to the sport and those who go there but need a little help, the resident club, Rib Valley Fly Fishers, is holding an open day on Sunday November 7th. The idea will be to let people have a go and show some of the key methods that are successful on the fishery.

News and Prospects :: Rib Valley Fishing Lakes

A number of the club members who fish it regularly will be in attendance as well as a qualified casting instructor. Come along and learn the basics of a approaching a small water and see flies and rigs that work well there.

Fished the Brian Austin Memorial there today and was second with seven.

Team mates Jeff (Razors) Wilkinson and Bart Farmer were first and fourth. Jeff did really well to get eleven on a hard day - I probably only had one or two takes at most per peg today and fortunately translated most of them into fish.

The water is exceptionally clear and most of my and Jeff's fish came on the Apps or black blobs.

All three of us will be at the Open Day and are happy to share our approach to the venue with anyone that comes along.

I'd quite like to come for the open day, but I am fishing the Kennet with ACW that day aiming for some grayling.
I have put Rib valley on my list of venues to try, as it's only 25 miles from me.
Good luck with the open day, I'll visit soon.

Cheers,
Gary

Today went really well with 30-40 attendees enjoying a fly tying demonstration, instruction on lines and leaders and the opportunity to try out the lake as well as watch and chat with some of us that fish it a lot.

The lake continues to be gin clear and fish well to the Apps as well as buzzers under the bung. After the cold night the fish were a bit deeper than last week but one of the visitors who had never caught a trout before, in spite of a few trips, had three on a rig we set up for him.

There is also an open evening including a fly tying demo, on Tuesday 9th at 7.30pm in the function room opposite the restaurant. All welcome.
