Default Seighford lakes.

Trout fishing.

Well the fishing has really picked up now on both trout lakes with some cracking bags and some lovely fish coming out. A total of 4 doubles have come out this week the biggest weighing 12lb 8ozs taken off the Swan neck pool by John Heywood who took over 30 fish during his day on small black buzzers.

Fish have been taken on a variety of flies and methods this week from small dries to big lures pulled on an intermediate line. Bill Bilsborough had some great sport on a bloodworm taking 6 fish in a afternoon, Bill landed fish up to 8lb off both lakes. With plenty of Daddy long legs around the fish are feeding on them really well and a lot of anglers have been catching some great bags off the top and with them sunk all over the lakes.

Now with the water and weather cooling down the trout fishing will continue to pick up and the lakes will be stocked regularly throughout the winter to provide cracking sport. Tight Lines and hope to see you soon with that fish of a lifetime on.

Would just like to say well done to Team Seighford who have just won the Airflo small water championships. Mike Dixon, Glen Moody and Ian Buckley great angling lads but wouldn't expect anything else when you qualify from the best small water around

Good sport has continued this week at Seighford with decent bags of fish being caught over both lakes. Local angler 'Nog' took 8 fish at the begging of the week using a variety of lures on a floating line. Carl Powell fished Thursday and caught 12 fish including a bonus 7lb Rainbow. Carl took all his fish using a floating line and black lure retrieving it slowly on the Swan Neck Pool.

Chris Ector took the best fish this week by landing a stunning 11lb 4oz Rainbow Trout off the Swan Neck Pool using a floating line and Hares Ear. The most productive flies this week have been mainly Lures including White and Green, Black and Green and Orange and Black. Olive Nymphs and small Damsels have also taken plenty of fish this week all fished just under the surface on a floating line.

The Island on the Swan Neck Pool is no fishable, with work taking place last week, we have now constructed two pegs on there, with one at either end of the island. This will make fishing on there alot more comfortable.

Just a quick note to say that the website forum is now back up and running, feel free to join up and share your experiences at Seighford lakes and at other fisheries. Also a place for friendly banter and random chit chat

Firstly Happy New Year to all, another cold winter has been upon us again resulting in frozen lakes throughout the country. For the first time since the start of December some fishing has managed to take place on the Swan Neck Pool. There is only limited space due to the ice, but we are keeping both Aerators on constant to try clear more ice to make more room for fishing. Sunday 2ND Jan, every angler that fished had decent sport, best bag of fish was taken by Sean Hallows who landed 3 Rainbows best fish being just over 9lb which was his first fish of 2011 and a personal best!!!

Ross Hughes and Brother Richard Huges took 5 fish between them in just 2 hours using White and Green Lures and Bloodworms on a floating line. Best fish was 5lb 8oz. We have a stocking of fish ready to go into the lakes once both pools are free of ice. If you are thinking of coming down for some fly fishing, call the lodge phone on 01785 282967 to see if the pools are fish-able or if there is room. Hopefully some better weather comes soon so we can resume as normal.

Hope to see you soon. Tight Lines

Trout Fishing

Some top winter sport has taken place this week down at Seighford, with both lakes now fish-able the Trout have been coming out thick and fast. A small stocking went into both lakes on Saturday and another stocking will be taking place mid week. Fish up to 14lb will be stocked into both lakes.

Clive Wilkins from Derby took 5 fish on Saturday morning using a floating line and a team of buzzers on the double peg situated half way up on the Swan Neck Pool. His best fish was 4lb 4oz. Chris and Lynda Ector had some good sport over the week, catching a combined back of 10 fish using a variety of small nymphs, including Buzzers, Hares ears and Dial Bach's. There best fish was just shy of 5lb's. Jim Johnson from Cannock proved he can catch fish all year round by taking 6 fish off the Swan Neck Pool on Sunday, with the best fish being 6lb's. Jim found fishing his flies static underneath a site indicator the most productive method on the day. He swapped between a Black and Green lure and a fluorescent Blob to take the best bag of the week.

For more information on open times, prices and facilities check out the website on Seighford Lakes: Home

Trout fishing.

Fishing has been superb on both lakes this week with some top fish coming out well into double figures. With regular stockings now going in every week anglers have been filling there nets, Bill Bilsbrough from Cannock took 11 fish over the two lakes catching nearly everywhere he went, Bill used a floating line and small Blood worms and Damsels to tempt the fish.

Another 2 anglers who had a great day were father and son duo Sean and George Hallows. Father Sean caught the most but not to be out done by his son 11yr old George landed the biggest a lovely rainbow trout which weighed 10lb 12oz, The pair fished on the railway pool with floating lines and Damsels.

Top flies for the week have been various lures in the morning olive damsels and green/ white fritz producing, later on in the day more imitative patterns such as Blood worms, PTN and crunchers will keep you catching, the bung will always produce plenty of fish with either lure or nymph suspended at around 2ft.

As for areas both lakes have been fishing and producing some great fish with the strong winds later in the week the bottom of the wind was the place to be, if you keep moving you will catch more fish.

See you again soon. Tight lines
