Default Cantref

Hello,

Anybody ever fish Cantref up near Brecon? Had a good look at it yesterday and think I will probably give it a bash. Is it just browns in there? Anybody know anything about it?

I would really appreciate any information on this place at all!

Thanks

I haven't fished Cantref since I was kid but I know that it is stocked with rainbows with some wild browns in there. GarethL on here fishes it occasionally (I think he started a thread on Cantref not so long ago actually). Might be worth PM'ing him.

You can get permits for it from the machine at the Garw Nant visitor centre which is at the top end of Llwyn On reservoir. I think a day permit is £12.

Haven't fished it for a few years now but it is stocked with rainbows which shoal up, so keep on the move.

The next reservoir up the road (Beacons Reservoir) is brownies only I believe. See also this months Trout Fishermen which has an article on Ystradfellte.

I fished Cantref yesterday from around 2pm until 4pm - it cost me fourteen frigging quid! Anyway, it had to be short and sweet as it was a case of taking my father up there and parking him in the layby at the top-end so that he could watch (he can't fish any longer). I legged it around the top, over some little bridge and onto the far bank. Fished the bits that were fishable, and some bits that weren't so fishable! I had 5 lovely browns in that time and missed probably another 15 takes. It was fab. I would like to give this place a little more attention when I get the time. The sun was extremely bright, there was a slight breeze, which every now and again blew up into a real squal. Very nice. Claret bumble on the top dropper of my Fast Glass moved at quite some pace. That was the ticket.

£14 though for no more than an hour and a half! I would like to spend a whole day up here because I reckon there would be some good ones to be had (two of the browns that I got were nice though - one was a good pound and a half).

Nice spot. Also going to have a look at the next one up - Beacons?
