Default Albury Estate 9/10/10(Vale End) Fishery

A mild,overcast day with a little breeze.
Started on the larger lake at Vale End.Plenty of fish topping so slung out a klink.Had a fair few looks, think they were coming short as i failed to hook any-thats my excuse anyway.Tried a sunk daddy/hopper type fly pulled subsurface.Got lots of follows and the odd swirl but no hook ups.
Had some lunch and resumed on the smaller lake without any looks at dries, daddies, buzzer or damsel.
Still plenty of fish topping and a lot of subsurface movement, but what were they on!!!!!.
Out went an egg fly and wham thank you, only to loose it at the net.
Had another cuppa and resumed in more or less the same spot.An orange egg soon had one in the net and a few missed pulls and plenty of looks later had another three, all in spanking condition and all fought really well.Sooo they were obviously feeding on the hatching egg flies.
Quite a few out, some doing ok some finding it hard going.Lakes quite clear and fairly weed free.

Went to Albury in Surrey today for the first time and had a great couple of hours on the river/stream at Vale End, there are lakes too if you like that. It's a pretty small river maybe 3 yards across with some large deep pools and lots of shrubbery to get caught in. But.... there are good fish in this river/stream and they will take a dry fly if you are patient and determined. OK, so 4 bites in 3 hours is not exactly exciting but there is lots of fun to be had playing a fin perfect 2-3 Lb rainbow on light tackle in a small stream. Managed to get one in the net and it felt good.
So the fishing is tricky and rewarding in equal measure but the best thing about this place is it's so quiet, you'd never guess you were 15 minutes off the M25.
I like it and it saves a lot of time and money compared with driving down to the Kennet, Test and Itchen

I like the way you started out trying to be sophisticated using a klink on the surface, then "reverted to type" in order to catch
