Default Barrow Tank No. 3

Really at it's best at the moment. The water is very clear and cold giving the fish an extra bit of zip when hooked.

Although not at their peak, the buzzers are hatching well. The fish are full of a soup of bloods, daphnia and buzzers.

Fish are coming to floating lines with 20-25ft leaders, db's and small skinny buzzers on the droppers and a goldhead (Black or olive) on the point fished deep and slow.

My catch rate went up when I swapped from 6 to 4lb leader.

Some superb browns around.

TL

Jon

Sounds excellent, Jon

They said the Tanks were fishing well at Woodford Lodge this afternoon but I decided to fish Chew instead and blanked.

I gather that Chew, Blagdon and the tanks are all "fishing their heads off" at the moment, with Chew you have to be a bit picky with bank selection though as wind direction can be crucial to where the fish go. Give Steve in Veals a shout f,f,i. he's not there mondays though. John, Oh best of luck by the way.

We we fishing right down the far end of three to get the wind behind us, not very scientific I know. I guess it was lucky that the fish were feeding down that end too. The wind also helped get a few extra yards on the cast and most fish took quite a way out... I'll be back there soon.

Hope to bump into you fella on the bank soon.

Went up on Friday. JonT had a nice fish on a drifted nymph.

I didn't see any action to speak of until about 30 mins before it got dark when buzzers, which had been absent all afternoon, started hatching. They were big ones too. I had lots of rises to a bibio hopper and tweaks and pulls (2 fish on and lost) to the size 10 subsurface buzzer on the point.

From 9.45 to 10.15 I witnessed a really good boil of rises which made this one of the most enjoyable blanks I can remember

Fished tonight. Very exciting session even though I only landed 2. Both strong, bright silver rainbows, one to a db and one to a bibio hopper fished dry in the dark. Generally plenty of fish caught by rods and a really good evening rise only yards from the bank.

The weed is starting to grow now so get up there quick for the best of the summer action.

Here's a pic of the grilselike rainbows that are coming out of No 3 at the moment. This one took most my line off me twice.

A wild and windy night on number 3 yesterday only added to by the announcement by the ranger that there was an unmedicated psychopath on the loose and he had the police photo of a wild eyed individual to reassure us. This certainly added an edge to the evening particularly when I was approached by a large hooded figure at about 10.30pm who it turn out was looking for a light (or at least I think that's what he said).

The main challenge was not being swept off the wall into the water by the wind but the trout weren't put off by the weather at all. My partner (fishing) Pete took a evening limit and lost as many, several to dry sedges, and I had a lovely rainbow (similar to one pictured above) and a brown cock fish an ounce under 3lbs. Every retrieve was punctuated by nips and pulls. They were really up for it.

Interestingly all the browns (3) were all on the large side and all came to black lures fished on the top dropper. Lots of fish responded to the droppers being dibbled before lift off. The rest of the fish fell to either dry sedges or Db's.

More like fishing a wild highland loch then a concrete bowl on the outskirts of Bristol...

I had 3 hours on No. 3 on Saturday night. Only slightly blustery and no axe-wielding maniacs, otherwise sounds similar to JJO's evening. Lots of fish rising to adult sedges from around 7 to 8 pm and then they went onto the emergers until dark . Had my evening limit, 2 to a moser sedge, 1 to a Wyatt's DHE (first fish I have ever caught on this fly) and one that took the diawl bach on the point just as I was watching a fish come up from the depths to examine the sedge on my top droper. A lovely evening's sport. Everyone around me was taking their limits, mostly on diawl bachs fished just sub-surface.

Warm, wet and windy on number 3 tonight and I ended up unhooking more swifts than trout, 3 in one evening! with a brace of rainbows taken on dries. Loads of sedges coming off and the fish were taking dbs and dries with gusto.

JonT landed 3 but hooked 9! (probably only missing the other six due to the sleep deprivation bought on by the new addition to the Tripp household! Congrats Mr and Mrs JT) claret being the killer ingredient for him.

Mine came to the reliable bibio hopper and a balloon caddis.

Most fish were taken within 2 rod lengths of the bank.

Jon

Fished No. 3 with JJO in the strong westerly wind last night. Not much moving on the sheltered shore by the car park so we went up to the far bank and cast into the teeth of the gale. Anything other than a fast sinker was pulled round too fast by the wind/current so, thanks to JJO's powers of deduction, on went the boobies. He had two fish on but got broken by both. I had two fish to c. 3lb and lost another. Plenty of plucks and pulls. As the light went we walked back for a last cast on the sheltered spot by the car park. Occasional fish were moving and I had a small stockie to a Wyatt's DHE. I could get to like that fly.
