Seems like a good day, were you fishing the bank or from the boat? Were the fish close in as I may be able to knock off work for an evening from the bank this week.

Thumbs up Boat fishing at Carsington

Also had a good day at Carsington recently, going again tomorrow. Boats seem to be the most popular, didn't see anyone fishing the bank at all on the Millfield side. Caught rainbows, all in good nick, and delicious to eat - not like some of the muddy tasting specimens from little ponds. All taken on sinking lines and small lures, which is pretty typical for this time of year - tomorrow we're hoping for some serious buzzer action...

And, of course, we're pretty spoiled in this part of Derbyshire with Foremark not too far away either, apparently also fishing well

Default Great staff & venue

I think at one time or another I have fished nearly every major English reservoir at least twice and Carsington's staff are amongst the most helpful there is, they really want you to enjoy your day out and the water is set amongst some wonderfully scenic countryside, it a great water and it deserves to do well. The buzzer fishing is really good at the moment and one little tip is to hang your buzzers before rolling your line out to cast, the fish here do some keen on taking a rising buzzer. Tight lines

I’m fishing there this coming Thursday. It will be interesting to see how it fishes now they have stocked it with Rainbows. It’s a shame they put them in as it felt quite special with it being Brown Trout only. I can see why the management did it though as it could be almost impossible to catch in the summer.

Incidentally has anyone seen the size of the Pike in there? Last year when I was unhooking a Brownie by the side of the boat, I noticed this huge Pike only a few feet away staring at me unhooking the fish. I didn’t know whether it wanted me or the Brownie for its lunch. Either way it sent a cold shiver down my spine before it sank back down to the depths. It was a fantastic thing to see.

Yes, had a good day with healthy well conditioned rainbows nearly ripping our arms off to a small black static buzzer or an even smaller leadhead GRHE. All the boats were in Brown Ale bay, but we found Fishtail to be fishing well - maybe they just couldn't be bothered to get over there? No one fishing the bank again.

And, you are right, staff are helpful, and it is a good venue. I also agree it is a shame they stopped with the "only browns" policy - wonder where they have all gone??

Have heard that a 20lb pike was caught there recently on the fly.

Carsington Water Fishing Report
Week Ending 22nd April

Number of Returns: 97
Number of fish: 646
Rod Average: 6.65

Best Rainbow: 5lb 2oz Best Brown: 4lb 4oz
Caught By: Phil Harding Caught By: Colin Hendry
Fly: Buzzer Fly: Black Diawl Bach
Area: Millfields Point Area: Upperfields Bay

Report:
The weather continued in fine form this week with weather more suited to late May, early June than mid April. The barometric pressure has remained at a high 1030 or there about all week and the water temperature has crept up another point to 11 degrees. There are many more beetles around now and there have even been one or two brown sedge on the water. The trees are really starting to get their blossom on the go now so we should be seeing more terrestrial’s on the water as well.
Best rainbow this week went to regular angler Phil Harding who landed his stunning 5lb 2oz trout on a buzzer fished from a drifting boat at Millfields Point. Phil had a fantastic day landing a total of 21 fish from various places around the reservoir. He caught all his fish on buzzers fished on a long leader with a very slow figure of eight retrieve. His bag included another Rainbow of exactly 5lb and his total weight for his 6 fish was 18lb 15oz.
Colin Hendry captured the biggest Brown trout this week, a cracking fish of 4lb 4oz. This trout snatched Colin’s Black Diawl Bach as he slowly pulled it back towards his boat whilst drifting across Upperfields Bay. With typical Brownie behaviour it took off on a strong run heading for the deeps, where it gave Colin a good run around before finally succumbing to the net. Colin landed another 2 fish for the day; both were Rainbow’s one at 3lb 10oz and one at 3lb 5oz. One also took the Black Diawl Bach and the other fell to a PTN.
Top Spots this week have been, Upperfields Bay, Millfields, Stones Island and Brown Ale Bay. Top Patterns include, Buzzers, Diawl Bach, Damsels, Montana Nymph and Black and Green Fritz.

Tight Lines

Well I have to say I really struggled at Carsington yesterday. Bright sunshine and a cold northerly wind probably didn't help. I got the impression it had been fishing better earlier in the week when there was a southerly wind and a bit more cloud. Managed one Brown to a Black and Peacock Spider. Still it was nice to be out even though I managed to get a sunburnt. Must remember to wear a hat and take some sunscreen in future.

Was out on Carsington yesterday afternoon from 3pm on.

Struggled to find fish early on with no offers for the two hours. Started to pick up the odd fish in Upperfields Bay. Then from 5 o'clock on found quality rainbows around 3 to 4 pound mark about 2 to 3 feet down. Ended up with about 13 to the boat (lost count after 4). Buzzers were hatching but could not buy a fiish one for love nor money. All fish taking a montana.

These trout were on steroids as they dragged the boat all over the place. They took so long to get in that you had drifted through the taking area before you could get your flies back in the water. Great day's fishing.

We are so spoilt in this part of the world.
