had a nice day at Carron today.
When we arrived it was like a sheet of glass with a massive amout of fish rising all over the place. A good breeze kicked up mid morning and it was still overcast at this point so we thought we were in for a good day.
Alas come dinner time the sun made an apearance and stayed out all afetrnoon, not the best conditions but hey it was still nice to be on the water.
First fish to Carl a bow of 1.75lb in the bay between Gull island and the shallows, then before fish was landed i had a bow of 3.5lb on a Hares ear, both hard fighting fish.
After lunch we drifted into the corner between the jetty and the dam wall and both had a brownie each of 1.5lb. One on a hot head damsel and one on a fluo orange cat.
Biggest of the day went to Finlay who had a cracking bow of 9lb.
Third boat of our group had a few smallish browns.
Oh yeah and i got a Powan on a Diawl bach.
Well worth a visit.

regards Gary

Team Fife had the pleasure of fishing with Carl and Findlay

The Venue Carron Valley http://www.carronvalley.com/Carron-Fly-Fishing.htm

We all arrived and the water was very calm with fish rising all over the place.

No fishing before 9am, so we took in the tranquil settings

We paired up with boat partners and off we set out on the this great water

We all went our separate ways. Carron Valley reservoir is almost four miles long and three quarters of a mile at its widest point, so it is far from a puddle

A few fish were caught early on

Davie my boatman was loving it

My first wild brownie, caught on a Goldie blob, Davie could not believe it,

In the later part of the afternoon the sun began to break through the clouds and before to long,, the sun was beating down and the wind picked up a bit ,, not perfect brownie fishing,, glad to report everyone caught,
Findlay managed this 9lb bow

Good going guys glad everyone caught fish. Carron is fishing well. I was on yesterday and had 15 to the boat. 4 bows and 10 browns for myself and 1 brown for my partner. GREAT FUN . All browns returned safely. Biggest brown was 1.75lb app. This was an exceptional fish. Full tail ,shovel. It was a bar of silver with large black and brown spots. I said to my partner that it resembled a leven brown and when i told this to fraser at the weigh in a quiet smile crept over his face. Apparently last year when he heard that leven was coming to an end, or scaling down, call it what you will, fraser enquired what they were proposing to do with the remaining fish in the hatchery. He was told they were going into the loch so he asked to buy them and low and behold carron now has a good number of silver leven beauties patroling its depths . Fantastic diversity in carron now. I cant wait till the 10th of may when the evening sessions start. Yesterdays late afternoon buzzer hatch was phenomenal. Fish were taken on uv harelug, black pennel, carron rabbit and sparklers.
well done gary

All the best
Mark

Looks like you had a very good day aswell Mark.
I would love a go at this place on an evening session, i reckon the sport would be fantastic, the amount of buzzer shucks on the water was phenomenal

an evening session on carron can be magical, but it can also drive you mad, fish rising everywhere, and i mean everywhere, and nothing will touch your flies
