I hear Sea trout run it very early in the season, up as far as the minnowburn beaches.

I definitely think it would be worth a throw for salmon in about june or July. The salmon are still in it as far as i know.

Just to bump this thread, I saw a guy yesterday at Shaw's bridge throwing a double hander around, I didn't even know you were allowed to fish this stretch of water but you learn something new every day!

Has anyone fished here before? Any use for trout/sea trout?

It's used regularly by APGAI (Ireland) Instructors for giving lessons. You probably saw Pat Mulholland either practicing or working with a client.

The stretch is controlled by DCAL and you definitely need a permit as it's one of the few areas regularly checked by that increasingly rare species, the Water Bailiffs. Ther are some nice browns in it, best fished with a sedge pattern on late summer evenings, but don't leave anything of value in yer motor as the l local chavs are known to keep an eye on anglers

Cool, I did some googling and see you can get a DCAL permit for around £60 which entitles you to fish 64 different waters for all game species, seems very good VFM? Especially as they are spread across nearly all counties.

Do you need a rod licence as well as the DCAL permit?

Just answered my own question... £18 for a season's FCB rod licence (inc Foyle endorsement) and £63 for the DCAL permit to cover 60+ waters.

Damn good value!
