Default The Peacock Fly fishing club (Derbyshire Wye)

Thought i would start a thread off dedicated to famous Derbyshire Wye, a place dedicated to the gem she is.. a place where dreams can be made or broken.
Day ticket anglers and club members can keep an eye on the river levels and fishing...

Yesterday was another bit special for me, every week i fish the Wye i have something that keeps me buzzin..
In the Peacock i met up with 8 of the best lads i have met in fly fishing, all sound lads that looked as keen as me to fish this classy river, days dont get much better than fishing with like minded fly men....Commo presented Trugg and myself a fly holder in Oak for the help i have gave him, what a top lad, made all by himself!!! well i will blog the day later but for now here is a picture of a fish i have been after for over 2 months!!!
Under a overhanging willow in the wild location of the Wye, why did it take me so long to catch?
Well, it only ever will show in a hatch, but it would rise a inch infront of a tree root with a overhanging willow 12 inhes off the water, no back cast, a sideways roll cast with a move shown to me by John Tyzack to place to fly spot on...for months i have gone and waited for this fish to feed and then smacked the tree to put the fish down, today i made 4 bad casts just short and when my size 22 midge landed in the spot i knew what was coming, heart in the mouth and she just sipped it down calmly and i hit home with a feeling only us fly men get....
Not a big fish but a better feeling than most of my fish all year....and just look at tail colour!! Fly fishing at the finest for me....
Anyway conditions
Low, clear, bright, midges, swarms of sedges to make your mouth water..

Default Another cracking day

Nice one Glen.
Your enthusiasm is so infectious.
I personally have learned so much not only from the generosity of yourself but from new friends introduced to me by you. It has brought a whole new meaning to the sport for me.
As for yesterday, it is not often you get 9 guys all getting on so well. Especially shoulder to shoulder on the town stretch, netting each others fish, taking photos, sharing flies, advice, banter, chats with the public and great humour. A testament to the Club and the river and all the lads. Jan visiting to see if we were all ok in the evening is always a nice touch.
Glad you liked the tool. PS it is mahogany.
I think I'll make Jonny 'Jeep socks' a ruler so that he can measure his fish more accurately.
Nice that Dean cracked it in the end! He's well glad he didn't visit the pub!
Great that everyone managed a lump or two in the evening. I'm glad our new unhooking mat was brought into service on its first outing.
Nice pint later too!
Bet RW still doesn't know who painted his picture!
Got the email last night to say I'm in! Wow LTD SOW

Commo,
I get told this quite often but i think the word is madness!!!
Has the 'Regular Rod' got hold of you yet? gave him your mobile....
I have seen some bad dress on the rivers but Jonny in shorts and pulled up 'Jeep Socks' just beats them all, the worst thing was seeing his car when he drove home!!! a jeep!!!
He need a day out with Adam Booth to sort him out!
Sorry mate thought the fly holder was Oak, Mahogany sounds better....
River fly fishing has a hold on you bro, enjoy the ride.....the Wye will sort you out....it has for me..
Nice one
Glen

Well what more is there to say,Commo has just about summed the day up perfectly, A great day in idyllic surroundings with smashing companions, some who I'd met and fished with before and others I was meeting for the first time but all good company.Even though I wont be joining the club simply because i can't get there often enough I can't wait for my next visit.
The river is testament to the fish keeping and river management skills of warren and jan, if there is a finer wild trout river in england I'll eat my hat.
It would be great to meet up with the same bunch of lads on there again soon even though it did resemble Fish o mania on the town stretch in the evening.
Glen what did you think of the spinner pattern.
Time to start planning the next visit.

Hi Steve
We have a strong hold of lads who are very down to earth in our possy, all diff levels of skill and makes no difference whatsoever...but to be in our 'gang' you need to just join us on the Wye for a good days fishing....
You ever fished there Steve?
Nice one
Glen

Glen,

The boundless enthusiasm portrayed by 'The Posse' has prompted a swift communication with the hotel! I await with bated breath a positive response!

Is there an initiation ceremony?

Steve

Default Nice 1

Nice 1 Tarquin,

Looking forward to us all fishing together again next season......and what a piece of river!

Anyone on the river on b hol Monday? I'm booked on with Ian Gould of Errwood.

Woody

PS now that I've managed to secure a place on the Wye, I'd prefer it if anglers would call me Mr Wood rather than Dave or Woody...oh...and Pointon...you'll have to stop referring to me as a c**t

'initiation ceremony' all you need to do is have a few shots of Woodys Pi"" he sells in his shop and then wear jonnys 'Jeep socks' pulled up high and fish the town at bakewell!!
I am on every Sunday mate if u want to come have a chat or its always worth asking to see Jan Hobat (river keeper) who will help you out...
