Talking River Clyde, Lamington. We beat the quarry!

Great news for the Clyde in general and Lamington stretch in particular. On Tuesday morning, South Lanarkshire Council planning committee refused the application by SLR consultant on behalf of Patersons of Greenoakhill to dig a 90 acre, 6 million tonne quarry for sand and gravel.

Thank you to everyone who helped me raise the profile of this potentially destructive application, to those who took the time and trouble to write objection letters and letters to councillors, MPs, MEPs and MSPs. Your efforts were much appreciated.

L&DAIA will be continuing to work with CRAG to ensure that the area will be protected for our future and that of future generations.

Please spread this great news,

Maggie (Sec) L&DAIA

An example that even today's cloth eared and brown enveloped politicians have to listen when communities and the wide range of interests within them form one voice.

Crazy idea anyway but that might not have stopped it going ahead, well done to all who protested.
