Excellent!

Loads of details and up to date for our local rivers too !!

It would seem we are benefitting from the flood watch monitoring service that is updated at least daily or more often in times of flood from automatic monitoring installations (so we can take these to be accurate). There are around 10-15 stations for our river system, quite comprehensive.
The aim is to provide flood warnings but has an obvious side benefit for fishermen, either way, hurrah for something else to back up value for our license fees.

In my local river about a dozen salmon up to 12lbs have already died due to the low water levels.
These are the ones we have seen, no idea how many others have died.

Sepa have a service similar to this in Scotland. If you are coming up for a visit have a look here to check the (non) existant water levels. Updated every 15mins so you can't get anymore accurate.JB River level data

Good service, will stop having to phone that vastly overpriced, and often out of date Rivercall.

Low river levels are a natural thing but what gets me is the rapidly growing amount of abstraction going on by those self styled 'custodians of the land' - the farmers. A pure disgrace. They are quite happy to suck streams bone dry. And Sepa is a toothless waste of space.

Delighted with the new service I checked out the upper Teifi at Pontrhydfendigaid. The gauge weas showing .54m which was weird as I'd been up there on Saturday and it would have been pushing it to say there was .054m running by there - an error of 16"

Phoned EA hydrometry who eventually said

"The river level website is designed so that the public can see real time data in the event of a flood as it will be updated every 15 minutes during an event. As I said to you on the phone the gauged boards are historic and can not be adjusted as this would cause years of data to be rendered incomparable."

which means the readings are not much use to anyone who wants to know how deep the water is from at least one gague on the site. You have been warned!
