Default Avon

Big thanks to Braveheart and Job67 for a great days fishing on the Avon at Amesbury on Thursday. Good mayfly hatch but getting the fish to take an artificial was hard, they were being rather picky. Will be back soon with a bit of luck, thanks fellas.

Was out at West Amesbury today. Had one Grayling at the bottom of the beat, then walked up just past the hatches, saw very little movement.
Decided to try the Nadder, but walking back down I saw a rise under the tree on the opposite bank to where Tango left his fly box.
One perfect cast later and a nice fit Brownie was released, but while I was playing it another one rose, and another, caught and released those as well All three must have been side by side and all took a CDC & Elk (thanks Hans)
Moved to the Nader after that and had two beautiful little wild Brownies on the Ollie Edwards CDC Dun.
The Danica are all but finished now. I saw a couple of what appeared from distance to be sedges, but they were a bright almost burnt orange colour, anyone any ideas ?

Don't think so cranefly, it was the wrong colour for the cinnamon sedge.

No, it was a much stronger colour than that.
If I see them again I will try to get a picture, didn't have my camera on Thursday

For a man that only thought they were sedges you are being mighty fussy about their colour. Did you get a good look at their eyes - black or brown?!

Nah, they were probably toffee wrappers!

I spotted a couple of soldier beetles in the rough stuff when we were there, could be them. Dark tip to the **** end of them and a browny orange in colour.
