Default Angling for Salmon on Ireland's Cork Blackwater

Click the image to open in full size.
Report
Salmon Fishing on Ireland’s Cork Blackwater re-opens on February 1st.
Hopes are high for a great season with a continuing improvement in the spring run & drift nets now banned.
The river is currently very high, but with colder weather forecast for next week, it could be in cracking order by Opening Day.

2006 Summary
Superb Spring Salmon Fishing on the Cork Blackwater in Southern Ireland.
The Best Spring Run for at least Ten Years.
There was a superb run of spring salmon into the Cork Blackwater in 2006. Whilst the run didn’t get under way to any great extent in February, March & April were extremely good. Fish were being taken even on the Lodge’s 9 beats on the upper river between 17 & 28 miles upstream of the Lodge.
Summer Fishing
Low water and comparatively few anglers meant that the catches from May to August were not great.
However, with the ban on drift nets which starts in 2007, we are expecting a considerable pickup in the grilse & summer salmon fishing.
Backend Fishing
We finally got good water in September & as usual the autumn fishing was superb with 400 salmon taken on the Lodge beats for September. The Lodge’s 7 lower beats below the first weir on the river produced most of the fresh fish.

I see the menu at Blackwater Lodge is still the same, spam and farmed salmon.

Kippers should be on the menu, there's 2 on the table.

Salmons that have spent 3-4 days at the river are called kippers in England ?
I am no expert in salmon salmon fishing (apx. 400 days salmon fishing (Norway,Finland,Sweden, Scotland, Ireland and Russia)) but I must say that salmon fishing at the Blackwater lodge is one of the best organised that I have seen. To be honest I have visited the Blackwater lodge waters only once (lost one and rised one) but I was only unlucky (friend of mine visited the same beat two days after my visit and caught 4 salmon). If you are looking for a big salmon (10-30kg:s) Blackwater is not your place, come to Finland or Norway but if you want to catch a fish BW is the place to be. There are some "fishproof" rivers in Norway too (Repparfjordelva....) but try Blackwater before.
Ps. Sorry about my bad english
Pss. I have no connections with the Blackwater Lodge.

I think that the advertising at the Blackwater lodge is always fun to read. Mr Powell is always looking for ways to attract his unknown market.
