Default Straid Fishery report

Straid Fishery report

Over the past few weeks fishing has been of the highest order at straid fishery and the recent settled weather saw catch rates improve with fish actively feeding on the surface with small pheasant tails taking a large number of fish.
The boxing day competition saw anglers coming from as far away as Monaghan and a good turn out supported the event. The winner of the competition was local man Alan McCartney who had a bag of 3 fish for a weight of 9lb 7oz. In total Alan landed 15 fish for the day and his overall bag included a lovely fish of 4lb 14oz. Alan won a fly rod sponsored by Greenheart tackle and £120. 2nd place went to W.Patton who had 3 fish for 8lb and this won the Ballyclare angler a Greenheart Reel and Spare spool. 3rd place went to L. Steele from Antrim who had a bag weight of 7lb 12oz. His prize included £25 and £50 of vouchers. Other catches included Harry Graham 2 for 4lb 12oz, Jackie Harrison 3 for 6lb 5oz, Tony McMurdie 3 for 6lb 3oz, Geoffrey Kitchen 3 for 7lb 6oz, Cecil Barron 3 for 6lb 4oz, Davey Jackson 3 for 7lb 2oz, John Greer 3 for 5lb 15oz, Simon McDowell 3 for 6lb, Denis Chambers 3 for 6lb, Colin Halliday 3 for 5lb 12oz, Les Patton 2 for 5lb 6oz, N Snoddy 3 for 6lb 10oz, Gary Cooper 3 for 6lb 10oz, Tony Cooper 3 for 6lb 5oz.Best catch of the week went to Mark Telford who landed 41 fish in a morning session on Cats whiskers.

Was up last Friday and had another good day, the fishery was settling down after taking a battering in the gales and rain and Adrian had got the place ship shape again .

Cats Whiskers and hairs ear beads were doing the business on an intermediate line.

I took a friend up who had not fished since he was a boy and he got his first trout in 20yrs, think he may have caught the bug again

Well worth a visit after this weather calms down again
