Yorkio & Roy many thanks.
We were hoping to maybe fish for a week, this would work out quite expensive( Wife fishes as well)
Are there no Angling clubs that do permits?

Shad... if you are going to fish for a week then spending all of it on the Wye is going to hit your pocket. I would mix it up with maybe a day on Monsal a day on Haddon and then a look through some of the new Peak Passport beats through the Trent Rivers Trust. I think Haddon still do evening tickets also. These would be excellent value in the Summer months.

I would definatly look at some of the TRT beats (the link is below in my signature ) if you want any info on the beats, either pm me or ring Andy H whos number is on the TRT website, you could probably find two or three decent days fishing on very varied beats

Default Matlock Angling Club

I'd join Matlock Angling Club - £40 for the season.
It has about 3 miles of the River Derwent over 7 stretches which are never or rarely fly fished. I walk the dogs twice a day along the stretch behind Sainsburys in Matlock and it's alive with fish which rise all day every day and I've never seen anyone fishing this year. The river is not stocked but is full of trout plus a good head of grayling. Most club members are coarse fishermen so don't fly fish. The fish are not massive with a pound fish being a good one. It's challenging fishing where wading is advantageous and the fish lie under overhanging branches.

It's excellent value for money and well worth the £40 / year.

I can also vouch for Matlock water - Couple of good bits further up at Darley Bridge and the Cricket Club above. I usually fish it early in the season before the Wye kicks in - had a 19ich wild brown in March this year - worth forty quid for that one fish!
