Default The River Teise

Anybody out there fished the river Teise near Marden in Kent. I have put my name down to join the local society that looks after this stretch ( assuming they want me ) and assuming my wife lets be part with the fees but would like a forum point of view if anyone has first hand experience of this beat. I walked about a mile of the river at the weekend and from what i saw it is a challenge but am aware that there is 8 miles of the river available to fish. I will approach the society and ask if an existing member can act as a guide but in the mean time all responses welcome ( there's an open invitation ).

Davebike is your man for the Teise, Paul. He's often around, but probably worth PM'ing him as well.

From what he tells me, the Teise sounds like a lot of fun. If I didn't have my hands full in South London already it's very likely I'd have joined you in Kent too...

Default R Teise

If Dave has sent a pm I guess you have all the info. I think it is just Dave and I from the Teise who are members of the forum. I joined the association last year and spent alot of hours getting to know some of the river and it's beats. It will take a few years to know them all well I think. Yes there is 8 miles, some of it unfishable because the banks are overgrown, but some wonderful stretches in the middle of nowhere. Challenging - lots of roll and catapult casting. Of course the easier parts get fished but I reckon there are a couple of beats where hardly anyone goes and I've seen some huge fish here. That's where I will be concentrating next season
As Dave says there are wild bowns and grayling and stocked browns and rainbows. Upwing hatches and a fair mayfly hatch that really has the fish looking upwards. Huge chub if you fancy a go at those as well. In the winter a couple of beats are open for coarse fishing. Before Christmas I had a mixed bag of perch, chub, chublets and a rainbow and met Dave walking the bank.
Clubs website is www.teiseangling.co.uk/index.htm. Also a small reservoir for members only.
I don't think there is a waiting list but membership is limited.
Go for it, join.
