Default Grayling on 16th Jan - Where?

Due to work commitments I have to drive from Northampton to Carlisle on 16th January. Notwithstanding the British weather, which may throw my plans into chaos, I was hoping to stop along the way and sneak a few hours grayling fishing.

I could simply fish the Dove (DRAC waters, of which I am a member), but thought this would be a chance to try somewhere new.

My route is not critical, but given the length of the drive I do not want too much of a diversion. I could do:
M1-M6
M1-A50-M6
M1-A6
M1-A65
or even up M1-A1 then across via the A684, or the A66

Leaving home at 07.00 and arriving at Carlisle at about 20.00 should give me a few hours of daylight somewhere along the way.

Initial thoughts are to try the Wharfe or Ribble but I am open to suggestions - either on here or via PM.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Default Fishing for Grayling

You could do a lot worse than fish on the Wharfe either at Ilkley (ticket for around a tenner from the toruist information office) or at Addingham, again a ticket from the post office. The fishing stopped at Bolton Abbey a week ago, until March I think.

You could also try the Wharfe at Pool-in Wharfedale, I've never done it, but am told t is excellent, and the ticket from the petrol station used to be aonly a couple of pounds.

It all depends on the weather at present the rivers round here in Yorkshire are unsurprisingly rather full. All areas easily accessible from the A65.

Thanks for the reply Venator.

Your thoughts are very similar to my own, the problem being that there is unlikely to be any rivers still fishable by Tuesday.

I may have to visit a stillwater instead

The alternative of an afternoon 'browsing' a certain retailer in Penrith tends to melt the plastic as past experiences have taught me
