Default River Swale Richmond

Recently joined Richmond AC and would be grateful for any info on the Red House Farm stretch.

I first visited there at end of March and didn't find any sign of fish. Determined not to give up, I have been back 3 times since and still haven't caught anything - in fact I have only had a fish take the fly once! Conditions have ranged from high, coloured water, cold and windy, to low, clear water, hot and sunny.

Can someone solve the conundrum - is it worth persevering with the fly?

This used to be a very good stretch but I haven't fished that stretch recently in part because on my most recent visits (last season) it wasn't very productive. I get the impression that since the caravan park was developed at Red farm it has had a lot of pressure and is over fished. Also the other bank backs onto estates at the back of Catterick Garrison and again gets a bit too much pressure. I've seen some evidence that it has been targetted by Eastern European Poachers. Try down by Brompton or around Easby/Richmond.

As Imago has stated the stretch mentioned has got a lot of pressure on it and not many fish came out of there last year, also remember thats the most popular match stretch as its easy access for the match anglers so a lot of bait also goes in, try the marske stretch upstream or head down to Langton bridge.
