Yes it is for Grayling at the moment, day tickets are £5 untill the trout season starts in April when it will be £20. Thats not too bad i recon for a day on a beautiful river. Its all catch and release and you must use barbless hooks.
Get the ticket from Orvis, they are so helpful and friendly in there and you'll get a A4 map that is rather out of proportion but gives you an idea of where to go. Kindly Andy gave me some advice about flies to use on the beat which are available from the shop so i'll be popping in there over the next day or two to buy a couple then learn to tie them. I love this sport...even when you're not doing it (fishing that is) you can actively prepare by tying flies, which in itself is a fascinating and highly addictive hobby.

Not bad prices that, interesting. I think I stayed at a pub called The Fox some years ago, not far from there, also on the river, very nice

Only a fiver, from the Orvis shop, you say?

Might have to try to squeeze a trip in before the end of the season - only four weekends left now, and I have two of those already committed.

Gents

it's not a chalk-stream water, visibility is not great but on the stretch above the village I have seen some some huge shadows moving underwater, John from the Orvis shop says they're chubs.

Not an easy water at all on the fly, I am sure maggotters have better life here. John however says during mayfly season the situation change drastically with trouts, Chubs and barbs coming up on Danicas - 25£, then back to 5£ after 15th June

I trust this helps

Marco

I found this on Burford Angling Club, written 6 years ago and some species (notably barbel) have reduced quite considerably on the river since then but it gives a good idea about their water.
