Default Advice

Is there a way to remotely get river level readings for the Ribble, Lune or Eden in the same way that you can get daily updates for the main Welsh rivers from the "fish wales" website.

The Ribble is about 50 mins on a good day from me and the others a lot further so its pointless travelling and hoping for a good level. Any help is much appreciated, cheers Paul

Try this for size...EA River & Sea Levels Service
...when they finish their maintenance! It was working a fortnight ago when the rivers were empty.

Think I'll try the Ribble on friday at Long Preston. But before I buy a salmon licence, is it worth fishing for salmon and sea trout?

You'll find what you need on this thread or pm Ribble Rod (Fred) for some advice.

Now working, and they've added a "Last 48 hours of available data" graph which is excellent for seeing when the levels are dropping off (which they have been on the Lower Ribble from last night despite local downpours)Click the image to open in full size.

good news but there is so much choice compared to the "fish wales" site, which locations for the Hodder and Ribble are thought to offer best average view of the rivers levels

For example the Welsh Dee is one of only a handfull of Welsh rivers that has more than one gauge and out of the three gauges the Corwen one provides the best overall view.
Thanks Paul

River at Sawley is bang on zero on the gauge. Clear, but running with a faint peat stain.
Friday 30th July: horrible drizzly/rainy evening. No fly on the water save for a few black longhorns and nothing rising. At least the weed has been flushed out.

Fished small streamers for a handful of fish (all around 3/4lb). Thin rocky water seemed to harbour most fish. A few goosanders seen

Fish plus ahem, 'baitfish imitation'

Another fish - typical Ribble wildie

A fit looking owd lad. It's that time of the year again!

Nice plump little fish there Matt, even on a Tadpole.
