Default River Wey - Farnham

Guys

Anybody have any info regarding fishing the River Wey that runs through Farnham ? The "DoFreeFishing" website mentions fishing in the town itself but upon speaking to locals I believe you can also fish from the Maltings down towards Coxbridge as much of the land is council owned - not sure how accurate this is. Have see a few fairly good sized Chub and a few brownies recently.

Many thanks

Cheers
Mike

never seen any trout but loads of chub, i have fished it a couple of times with a mate of mine from borden and got a couple of funny looks but im sure a word with the guys in the orvis shop in town should put you right, cheers jon.

p.s the only way we could hook a chub was on a white fly. bread imitation??

Hi Jon

Many thanks for the reply - I'll have a chat to the Orvis guys as suggested. Nice looking piece of water - I work in Farnham and spend most lunchtimes wondering along the river looking for fish

Cheers

Default Farnham wey

Mike m,

Did you get anywhere in finding which bits of the wey running through Farnham are free to fish? Would be interesting to know as I'd like to have a flick on it.

Regards

Wokka

Hey Wokka

Nothing really conclusive - spoke to a local whilst walking the stretch below the church (towards Cox Bridge) and he reckons the local kids fish for Chub and as far as he's aware it's council owned land so shouldn't be an issue. There are also two signs (hidden by grass now) warning of overhead lines when casting. The DoFreeFishing site (Free Fishing|River Ichen|Hampshire|UK|Carp|Hampshire Area|Isle Of Wight|Winchester|Lake|Southampton) makes mention of it. Have now see three nice sized brownies between the Maltings and stretch below the Church. The Chub are huge in there at the moment and are constantly taking off the surface so reckon I'm going to have a flick until I get told otherwise.

Sounds like a plan, think I'll have a go as well. Thanks for the info.

I would also be very interested on how you get on, I had a very nice 4 1/2 lb chubb out on a pt two weeks ago on the Frensham stretch.

I had a cast on the farnham section on the wey today and was pleasantly surprised. I fished on the stretch by the Maltings. I caught 1 small brown trout and unfortunately an out of season chub. I also saw a large dead brown trout of what looked to be 1.5-2 lbs stuck in the same stretch of river. It had what looked to me like a bite mark on it's side, are there mink in that part of the river?

There are lots of large chub which I'm sure'll be worth casting to in a week or so.

Good effort Wft - have noticed a few trout around the Maltings - sorry to hear there was a dead one. Reckon there must be more trout in there - I've seen three now during my wonderings at lunchtime.
Will definitely be on there next week when the season kicks off. Great to hear you caught
