Default Trout fishing in France

Hi,
I am a relatively inexperienced fly fisher (4 years now) looking to fish on a river in France with camping facilities. I have tried internet searches and actually gone over to the places which were advertised (to my disappointment). Does anyone on the forum have any experience or should I conclude that the rivers have been fished to the max and that I should look to Scandinavia . Thanks.

I've been to both the Tarn and Jura regions which both have campsites. Both have crystal clear water and can be very tough from memory (although we were little short of useless then!). The Tarn is a wonderful looking place but you'll probably need a guide to get the most out of it as access points aren't that easy from memory. I'm pretty sure the guide we had was called Stephan Faudon. He'll bring along some nice pigs trotters for lunch as well....

Cheers

Johnny

River Dordogne in Argentat (Corrèze) offers those 2 things : grayling/trout + many campings between Argentat & Beaulieu.

Franche Comté (Doubs near Jura mountains) with Loue, Doubs, Dessoubre is worthwhile too.

Thank you all,
I have tried the tarn and came up a skunk. It was probably the most difficult water that I ever fished. If only it was stocked with a C&R program as it one of the cleanest river that I have ever come across. I shall look at at the Jura and keep you all informed.

Hi Wiggy,
I am (very) tempted but will need to plan this as it would mean a 6K round trip.

You may want to update your website. The cottage rental prices are dated 2005.

Closer to UK you could look at Normandy. Withs its very famous rivers such as the Iton etc. Most of these can be booked by the day and details could be found from most of the tackle shops in the region. Or try Michel Winthrop who does guiding on some of them, I believe.
