Imagine that fight Glen in a shallow stream, only 2 ways to go, upstream or downstream while you hold on for your life. Plenty of snags in proximity so credit where its due, I'm going after one again sap.

Can imagine what that took off like !!!
So it's in shallow small part of your river then? That's mental
I barbel fished for 8 years and never caught one that big so he must be buzzing.
Would love him to tell us the story..
Nice one

Thanx for posting the piccy Mick, yeah i'm well chuffed with that Barbel, the problem i faced catching barbel in that location, is that you can't give the fish any slack or let it run at all, as they head straight for the snags, give it an inch and you've lost it.

Been snapped off with 15lb mono, in that spot.

I know there is bigger Barbel still to be caught in the Erewash.

Hi mate, no did'nt spot it, as at the moment they are not showing in day light, I've been going down to this spot 2 or 3 nights a week, since I had the 15lb line snapped, been catching barbel every session, but only in the 7lb range, but wednesday I had the 9lb 9oz, so I figured the big barbel are gaining more confidence, Last night I had a 7lb 12oz early evening, then nothing till it was pitch black and thats when I bagged the 11lb 2oz.

I have seen a barbel that is about 3 foot long swimming the margins early season, and I think that is the one that keeps snapping the line and straightening my hooks.

I've really beefed up my tackle, gone for 30lb braid main and hook length, I've had to use no drag on the reel, just using the rod to lessen the impact of the run. keeping the rod tip close to the water.

Great to see all of your hard work paying off Dave.
Amazing to see doubles in the Wash.
A fish that size would struggle to turn round in such a small river.
Well done

REF member has just reported catching a 3lb+ brown trout from our little river and says he took pics on his phone. Can't wait to see and I'll post on here.
