Default Whitewater 2010

I guess someone has to kick off the annual WW thread so it might as well be me.

Only a couple of weeks to go now. I'm on my usual Sunday to Tuesday ticket. So, who's in this year?

You know what they say about patience being a virtue Jon.

I hope you're tying lots of wee flies because you're going to lose a few

I posted my application off last week ... hoping to hear back soon. Fingers crossed as I had a fantastic time on the river last season.

Think I'm back in for the new season. Belatedly sent off my application last week but it looks like the cheque has been cashed. Didn't fish much last year but the had some great days in May and June on the WW so looking forward to the new season.

I've started the last two seasons using some small weighted nymphs then switching to the drys when warms up a bit in late April. Thinking of sticking to drys only this year. Who else does this and what sort of success have you had during the first few weeks of the season ?

Cliff - did you end up catching anything from the Weir pool last year?

I started some days in the early part of last season doing exclusively dries but ended up turning to the dark side and tying on a small bead head nymph when there wasn't much (or any) action. Although I've always found prospecting with a dry on the WW to give unexpectedly good results, there are days, particularly early season, where only a little nymph will do the trick. I suspect that with the winter we've had, things will be slow at the start - the water's still cold, it's high and nothing much will be hatching. I'll be starting on a nymph but always ready to try the dry if anything starts to rise.

I didn't catch anything at the weir pool last season, except a couple of poachers, but I released them unharmed - should have knocked them on the head but as you know it's strictly catch and release.
