Default River Ardle, Perthshire

I've booked a cottage on the banks of The River Ardle at Enocdhu, between Pitlochry and Blairgowrie, this summer. Can anyone tell me what the trout fishing is like on The Ardle, or am I best heading further afield?

Also got a week on the north west corner if Islay. There's plenty of loch fishing to go out. Are there any browns in the rivers?

Thanks
Kev

Hi Kev
I caught lots of small wild trout on the Islay rivers we fished there, they would come and take the dry no problem..The river Laggan looked sweet and the river keeper told us there were huge browns in there but if we caught any we should toss them up the bank we fished it for the Salmon but it looked sweet for the trout...
Nice one
Glen

Ardbeg is your man for this area Arthur.
I have walked up the banks of the Ardle many years ago when I was at the Kindrogan field centre in my sixth year at school. I seem to remember it was shallow and streamy. The area has a lot of limestone and the lochs in the area are well known for good feeding so there is no reason for it not to be good. It certainly will be interesting pocket water and I am sure you will enjoy it. There should be tourists up there from august onward.

Thanks Zeolite (and others). I'm staying on the old Kindrogan Estate and I think the field centre is close by. From the pictures, it certainly looks like pocket water with good tree cover - very fishy.

Glen - I forgot you went 'tup Islay recently. Did you fish Loch Gorm?

Plenty of wee brownies in the rivers on Islay - permission is difficult though, unless you just go fish The Sorn is nice just above bridgend, the burn at Bunnahabhain also has plenty of troots (and the odd sea troot) but the steep banks, wooded banks make for some very tough fishing. Maybe your best bet is the Saligo river, it runs from Gorm to the sea at saligo bay - plenty of wee brownies there.

Its hard to look past Gorm if your over there though....

Yes we fished Loch Gorm and it was unbeleivable action in the afternoon on the sedge, fish after fish to the dry was wicked, all the locals catch lots wet fly fishing but the dry seemed to catch just as many..the place was adictive, i hate resi fishing but loch fishing is on par with the rivers in my view..
I have a write up on my blog somewhere...
When you going?
I am going again in May for a week with Woody.
Nice 1
