Thanks to all who have expressed an interest – the response has been extraordinary. The club is the Sowerby Fishing Club which has several miles of the Cod Beck in and downstream of Thirsk. It is good, small stream flyfishing for stocked and wild brown trout and grayling, with some chub. The club is a small one and, until recently, had only local membership. We need to keep our club healthy and are therefore looking for a few new members either to join or go on a waiting list.
The subs are very cheap at £40ish pa. We are looking for anglers who respect this type of water – it is fairly lightly fished and, although we don’t have rules about number of visits, we want people to show sensible restraint in how often they fish, to keep the quality and unspoilt nature of the beck. Similarly, our landowners will not want to see too many fishermen tramping over their fields.
The fishing is mainly fly only.
If you are interested in being considered, could you please email me a short fishing cv and reasons why you would like to join. I cannot give any guarantees at all about even getting on the waiting list as it is not my decision, but I do welcome your interest and your application will go to our committee.
Please forgive the impersonal response; I tried to do individual replies but the 60 second gap wore me down. If any of you are still interested, please email me at
