Default River Tean (Staffordshire)

Been to the river Tean today with Wezzer, not every fished before but Wez has rights to fish a few miles of it and it looks sweet as a nut, it was running quite low and clear but there are some top draw rifles that look to hold some good fish, Wez has taken Trout to the 3 pound mark and today we managed to catch three top conditon Grayling czech nymphing..
Its a river i am looking to start having a good go at as it is totally unfished..
If anyone has fished it please let me know any details..

I will continue to update this thread with Wez of what we manage to catch..

Nice one
Glen

Hi Glen, what part of the Tean did you fish was it around Checkley. I know the river really well I did my degree discertation on the effects on the invertebrates from the sewage works at Checkly. Saw a few good fish when kick sampling, but that was nearly 15 years ago (god that makes me feel old!!)

Hi TP
You are showing your age there mate!! Well you dont look as old as Ads yet
We were fishing around near the Dog and Partridge pub, i think that is Checkly but Wez will let us know, infact his house is 50 yars from the river!
We did see a brown around the 15 inch mark...
What did you find with the invertabrate, good/bad?
Nice one
Glen

The stretch we fished today was basically from the Dog and Partridge at Lower tean to Checkley, upstream of the treatment works. Ive fished it on and off for 20 odd years and have taken some decent trout in the warmer months although there are fair numbers of grayling chub and perch. Never fished below the works so have no idea how the discharge affects it. I'm sure glen will agree that its not the easiest place in the area but it can be great fun.

Your right there mate, our folically challenged piscitorial friend has a harder life than me... its all the work he puts into his fishing... (although he always does better than me the ******)

I found the inpact of the works was pretty short lived, once you got 200m downstream you would start seeing lots of freshwater shrimps, mayfly and stonefly larve.

Is it free fishing on that stretch of the brook?

Hi chaps, only just noticed this thread, not been on the forum for a while. Mis-read it and confused it with River Tern initially - Hodnet AC have some of that and it holds trout and grayling, although I've never fished it - but then realised my mistake. I'd be interested in any info/clubs on the Tean though, as its also not too far from me (well the bit you mention anyway), certainly nearer than the likes of Dovedale etc, so any pointers much appreciated
