Default River Avon

Yesterday I went to Avon Springs to fish with Mike M (forum member). Sadly it was frozen for the most part so we drove on down the road to Manningford, which was also iced up. However, I had a look around the area whilst I was waiting for Mike to arrive. I found a spot on the Avon between Durrington and Netheravon which seemed like a good place to try for grayling. Sadly I didn't have the right gear with me. But, I'm not sure if this stretch of the river is controlled by anyone. It's on MOD land but I'm sure it's a place where people walk their dogs etc. There were no signs restricting access and certainly nothing prohibiting fishing. Does anyone know of this part of the Avon and if it's possible to fish it? Is it worth fishing for that matter? I didn't get close enough to the water to see if there were any fish and I think you would have to wade as the banks are very overgrown, but it seemed worth a go at some stage.
Thanks,

Andy

I can't think of the section you mean, and I can't find my SADAC membership book to confirm, but very very few places on the Avon in this area are open access. I'd say this was either salisbury and district, or services water, I'm sure someone will confirm soon.

From the discription you have given I would say it's the officers beat on the services water. It is well worth fishing - the only trouble is you have to be either a serving or retired member of the forces (even then there is a long waiting list) or as a guest of a member.
