Default Fishing in Glyneath

I fished the Glyneath river on a day ticket today and have to say it was money well spent.

I had 9 fish in total. 2 were about 8 inches and the 7 others all over 1 pound, heaviest being close to 2 and half pound.

My cousin who was fishing with me had a fish over 4 pound rght into the bank, which snapped his leader just before he could net it.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day on an excellent, picturesque river.

Sorry mate I did't take any pictures. I usually take them on my mobile phone camera but it was raining most of the time so didn't risk getting the phone wet.

I will take some pictures on my next visit and will post them here.

I've had a PM from another interested angler who seems keen to go there so I've given him all the details required.

I was so impressed with the river I'm joining as a season ticket holder next year.

Tickets can be bought from Old Whitehorse Inn High street Pontneddfechan 01639 721219.

Also the barber shop in Glyneath town sells them but he can be difficult to catch in.

Fine result - whereabouts were you fishing - I joined the club this spring and am - slowly - getting to know the river.

I parked in a street off the Woolpack pub and walked to the river below the first bridge that I came to. As I made my way downstream there were lots of small waterfalls in quick succession (just below the small arches bridge).

The pool above it was holding a good amount of fish but were reluctant to take anything offered.

I fished the tail end of each little waterfall with a black klinkhammer with a pheasant tail nymph below it with some good success.

In the shallow long runs below the flyover bridge and further downstream I fished with a blue winged olive size 14 on the point and a black spider on the dropper. All fished on a floating line.

I fished all the way down to the Mcdonalds on the side of the dual carriage way.

Give some of the areas I mentioned a try with the same patterns and hopefully you may connect with the same beauty that my cousin lost!

Thanks, I've been concentrating on two areas;

From the Angel - the junction pool beneath the A465, down to the next road bridge.

The series of pools and runs downstream from McDonalds to the first one after the next A465 bridge.

Its sometimes infuriating but always a good day out.

Most successful fly - P.T.N. in 14/16 often beneath a bushy dry.
