Default A couple of hours on the Pang

2 hours, 12 trout, 1 grayling, saw the kingfisher....does it get any better?

Actually I'm not keen on the stocking of rainbows, I had 3 of them and have to admit they certainly liven things up!

Regards

Peter

It shouldn't be necessary (I could put it stronger) to stock anything into a stream with such good habitat and spawning gravels that can be seen in the background of the only wild brown trout picture.

I do agree. This was my 6th visit this season and these are the first rainbows I've had....the fact remains that they are stocked though, presumably because some members want to take fish. I fished the Upper Yorkshire Derwent in July and the chap that took me was furious that the club stocked rainbows so this looks to be a common problem. Economics apparently..."if members want to take fish we have to stock, and if we have to stock then rainbows make economic sense". I prefer wildies, C&R. Unfortunately this is the nearest decent small stream to me (and that's a 50 mile round trip) so I'm having to live with it.

Regards

Peter

I live within a few hundred yards of the pang, so regularly pop down for a look. Always see a few small brownies swimming around, so it must be a reasonably healthy breeding ground.

Lovely little stream, will look a getting a permit next season. John

Peter... thanks for the photos... I can understand the frustrations you shared when we fished the Lugg last week. That stream does not need stocked rainbows.

That is a river where 9" wild brown trout should be the abundant average not 1lb+ rainbows who eat the fry and par which should become the average and bully the larger fish out of the stream.

It is stocked for the wrong economic reason and really narks me because of it. People need to accept that a 11" wild brown trout is a good one!

Not sure about 9" brownies, but there are plenty of 6"ers about, and there was plenty of fry a few months back. Having said that, there was plenty of flying activity just over the surface this evening but I only saw a single rise in about 10 mins. J

I rest my case.
