Hi Tom

The river Severn runs through Shrewsbury - at the moment it's very high, brown and swollen. Shrewsbury weir used to be a very good for spring salmon, mainly by spinning before barbel spread through this wonderful river.
For fly fishing (trout and grayling) I would head further upstream into Wales.

There is some fly fishing on the tributaries in Shropshire - a search on this forum should find them if no-one else replies.

I you can, you might be better travelling slightly further afield for a day ticket either on the Upper Severn http://www.caersws-aa.co.uk/index.html or The Dee below Llangollen http://www.maelorangling.co.uk/index.php?categoryid=9 or http://www.llangollenangling.net/

For club waters, try http://www.gamefishersclub.org.uk/

Hodnet angling club have some trout and grayling fishing on the Tern.

Also, the Dee at Bangor on Dee en route to Wrexham:

More choice in South Shropshire, getting into Wye and Usk passport territory too, Gamefishers beats, another club I can't recall with beats on the Arrow (White something??), and some BAA stretches (on Lugg?).

Can't vouch for any of these I'm afraid as haven't had time to try them, just tucked away in the memory banks for future reference!
