Near Yeovil, but not a river, is Sutton Bingham reservoir which has excellent trout fishing (I always take a boat).
A few miles further south is the delightful river Frome. Tickets can be had in Dorchester. It has a reputation for big sea trout, but all I did was fish for its free rising browns - all on a dry fly. I wish I lived closer.

Michael the Lyn runs off Exmoor into the Bristol Channel at Lynmouth, so not ever so near Yeovil but well worth the trip. Tickets from Lynton TIC.

The Frome may well have a reputaion for large sea trout but you won't find any up at Dorchester in season.
