Question R. Nidd at Summerbridge

Hi all.

Went to Ramsgill last weekend and caught a small brownie on a size 16 Black & Peacock Spider (with a pearly tail).

Then went to look at the stretch at Summerbridge to see what its like. I must say that the river looks rather tempting to fish!

I just want to know how you get down to the river. The map book that you can purchase says that there is an entrance on the B6165 road, but I can't see where it is.

It looks like you can get down to the river easily next to the bridge but it says 'no entry'!?!

Does anyone have any ideas how to get down to the river?

Information would be of GREAT HELP.

Have you checked the Nidderdale Angling Club site http://www.nidderdaleac.co.uk/ ? There is a path along the whole length of the Nidd on the south bank from Pateley Bridge downstream. However, if fishing with a day ticket, I believe you can only fish at Dacre Banks or above Pately Bridge - Summerbridge stretch is members only.

No, I think day tickets can fish the short stretch downstream of the bridge at Summerbridge. However, I am not sure day tickets are on sale at the moment because of disease or whether out of season.

Anyway Articfox, you sound like a nimble chap, so next year you can either jump down next to the bridge on the south east side and fish down, or walk down behind the tenis courts and pavillion on the south bank and drop down the steep bank and fish up. Either way you should take a wading stick as the bottom is trickey with quite a few large rocks that tip up. Well worth the effort though on a £5 day ticket.

I also recommend you try upstream of Pately Bridge as well, towards the top of the day ticket stretch. The river is much easier to access and kinder under foot.

Thanks for the link. I have never thought of looking on there, But it is no good.

I am with Bradford No1 AA and have 2 fields downstream from the bridge.

Anglers are not suppose to 'enter' the water from the bridge (although you can get down there VERY easily, but looks abit steep).

The only entry is from the B6165 road, there is suppose to be some bradford no1 signs on a gate....but I don't see any. I will have to email them and ask where it is!.

Or I can just park at the tennis courts and wade across the river....but I have NEVER fished this part of the river so I don't have a clue how deep it is.

The stretch by the tennis courts down to the Bradford bit is not normally too deep (about thigh height) but it is lethal as it's quite difficult to get into the water and the rocks are quite big. I still remember one of my worst duckings there!

Thanks for the reply. I might have a look sometime and maybe take my waders.

Default VHS restrictions

Arctic,

I believe there are still restrictions in place on the Nidd - I have not done hardly any fishing there this season because of this (the VHS outbreak at the trout farm).

I believe NAC are not issuing any day tickets and also if you fish then you must sterilise all your equipment - it's this sterilisation that has put me off as it seems to much of a faff - so I have not bothered.

cheers

I am with the Bradford No1 AA, so I don't need day tickets to fish the water. I couldn't care less about the disease. There should be signs on all the rivers saying that you should sterilise your equipment.

An admirable sentiment.

Tell me, do you leave lots of litter on the river bank, and perhaps have a nice bonfire?
