Default Fishing around London.

Hello guys, Iam new here, studying English in London, used to fish a lot with my father in Kola Peninsula region in Russia great times.
Finnaly now i've got more free time, and i really want to fish here in England, saw a lot of rivers in Internet but its too expensive for me = 150-200£ a day !

If someone can advice me where i can try some trouts and graylings (salmons if possible) not far away from London. Will use a train.
And I heard about fishing Licens, where can i buy it?

Thanks a lot!!!

Hi Vasil,

I can't help you with southern rivers but a fishing licence can be bought at any Post Office or from the Environment Agency website. If you wish to fish for Salmon and Sea Trout you need to buy the more expensive Migratory licence. Brown Trout, Grayling, stillwater and coarse fish are all covered by the cheaper non-migratory licence.

You might find English rivers a little tame after the Kola Peninsula, but they have their own charms. Good luck!

You are a bit stuffed in London, the closest rivers you might be interested in are those in Hampshire (you really need to be related to Roman Abramovich to fish them), but for mortals the South Welsh rivers may be your best bet. I fish on the Usk and I can recommend that, but there are plenty of others.

the only lengthy free stretch of river for fly fishing is in central London. Check my Wandle link below. As a bunch of fisherman there are the odd trips and there are lifts available ....... £20 to join.

Apart from that you will need to get membership of a river (not always incredibly expensive). But getting to them by train will be difficult.

I think, if it was me, I'd try the Wandle. The pioneering spirit there appeals to me. The Wandle is also the sort of river I'd love to fish as well.

Mind you, don't forget a superb little river in the East Midlands, you'd be surprised by what it can throw up, and what is happening there!

The other inexpensive way to fish is with the following association:

http://www.londonanglers.net/Z-Menu%...dayticket.html

They have fly fishing down in Salisbury. But equally making train journeys to the other ends of the country is pretty easy these days and if you book a couple of months ahead you can get tickets very cheap.

I just bought a return from London to Perth for £36 .......... so if you want to get your back pack you can explore.

Default grayling or trout

Hi Vasil

Have you had any luck in finding yourself a fishing spot near London for trout or grayling?

I am in your position in that I have been In London a while but have always struggled to find any rivers accessible by train/taxi from London within say 2-3 hours where I can flyfish at affordable rates.

Please let me know how you have been getting on, I would really appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks

Sybie
