Default Derwent at Ladybower

In Derbyshire for a few days early in July and I understand that there is some river fishing on the Derwent at Ladybower. Can anybody confirm this and is it worth a go?

Regards

Peter

There is, and it is well worth the permit fee - which also covers you to fish Ladybower itself. Ring in advance to book it, though. Take a wading staff, it's rocky!

Cheers,
Paddy

Don't forget the duo/trio in the pocket water if there isn't much rising in the flat pools!

Is it the river right below the dam, and if so how far does it extend?

Do you book it at the fishery office at Ladybower?

^ About a third of a mile if i remember correctly , and yes you have to pre-book at the fishery office.

( Slightly diverting away from the subject here , sorry ) Does anyone have any info on the river ashop? ( the one at the other end of the res )

I fished the Ashop years ago when I lived in Sheffield, I just went up and did it, from Ladybower to wherever. I recall it as very clear and almost totally bereft of any life at all, let alone fish (I certainly didn't catch any). I think the moorland water is so nutrient free and 'thin' that there is almost nothing in it (look in any of the streams up there). If anyone disagrees I will be glad to be corrected. I fished in various other lower land streams in Sheffield with far more effect (the Rivelin and Loxley), in fact it's safe to say I learned to cast on the Rivelin, and I am considerably better at it than 99% of the chaps I see on the Usk, if I say so myself!
