Derwent above Chatsworth
Had afternoon there today... quite a few Mayfly about and Yellows... odd fish rising but not taking them...I started with a size 16's F fly.... nothing.... opted for a black 'Ram' goldhead and caught straight away... nice Browns and poor conditioned Grayling... too much shagging.....ahem.... My mate Tony Ball was catching on a self tied fly which resembled a deer haired 'dubbed' / winged pattern... which he put to good use... he gave me one and I started to get a responce fishing dry... due to either the fish or Tony's tying expertise, the fly was soon transformed into a couple of deer hair strands and a bit of thread... so... I remembered a tip from an old fishing chum who loved using a Grey Wolfe on Mayfly feeders in Ireland... so, on goes one of these in a size 12's longshank and there was no turning back.... fish after fish gobbled it up... sorry, no pic of the fly tied para hackled... Tony nicked it from me... \also the Black Ram which was 'borrowed' by Steve... the secretary of the club section... lovely sport!!
